Dearness Allowance Arrears Update: When And How Much You’ll Get Paid

This month, the central government employees and pensioners have been given a significant relief by means of an official announcement concerning the release of DA arrears following the latest hike. The announcement is made at the time when the routine biannual revision of DA takes place, meant to cushion inflationary effects on salaries and pensions. The payment of the arrears would certainly do much to help reinvigorate the financial morale of lakhs of employees working with the central government who have been waiting with bated breath for clarity on the amount to be paid and the date of payment.

DA Hike Confirmation

Thus, as per the latest decision, DA has been enhanced by 4%, resulting in gross DA payable to Central government employees being 54% as against 50% of basic pay. This has been decided on the condition that the payment would take effect from January 1, 2025, and the arrears for the months of January, February, March, and April will be paid forthwith in one lump sum.

DA Arrears Payment Date

The official sources state that the DA arrears shall be credited by the end of May 2025. This would ensure that all the employees and pensioners whose payment is due will get their revised dues along with or just before the payment of their May salary/pension.

How Much Will You Get?

The amount of DA arrears depends upon the pay that the employees receive. For example,

  • If the basic pay is ₹18,000, approximately ₹2,880 shall be granted as arrears (₹720 per month for 4 months).
  • Any employee having a basic of ₹56,100 shall have arrears of the order of ₹11,000.

The above calculations are on account of 4% additional DA on the respective basic salaries for the period of four months.

Who Will Gain?

The DA increase and parking will benefit over 47 lakh central government employees and 69 lakh pensioners. So this payment is for current employees as well as retired personnel considered under the structure of the 7th Pay Commission.

Conclusion

A timely announcement and release of DA arrears stand as a testimony to government commitment towards the welfare and financial stability of its employees. Beyond compensation for rising costs of living, it provides morale impetus to the workforce of the public sector. Employees may check their salary slips and notifications from their concerned department to get a breakup of arrears once paid.
